About FieldDx — what it is, where the data comes from

What it is

FieldDx is a clinical reference for large animals, built to be used away from a clinic: on a phone, in sunlight, with no signal and no account. It matches the signs an animal is actually showing against a list of conditions, gives the drugs those conditions are treated with, works the dose out for the animal's body weight, and states the milk and meat withdrawal where the source names one.

It is a formulary and a differential list. It is not a diagnosis, and it is not a clinic management system. Nothing is stored on a server; nothing is sent anywhere.

Where the data comes from

Nothing here is written by us and nothing is inferred. Each entry is condensed from one of these volumes and carries the book, and where the book has them, the page.

Where two books publish different figures for the same thing — and for normal temperatures and pulse rates they very often do — both are shown, each with its own citation. They are never averaged into a single number the books do not give.

Extracts are condensed and attributed, never reproduced whole. The source volumes are copyrighted and are not distributed with the app.

What it will not do

These are deliberate, and they are the reason the rest can be trusted.

It will not name the disease Matching signs narrows a list. It ranks what fits and shows how well. Deciding is yours.

It will not predict an outcome No survival odds, no recovery times. The books do not support them for an individual animal.

It will not show a dose it cannot cite A drug with no usable dose for that species says so plainly rather than borrowing a number from another animal.

It will not invent a withdrawal time The badge says a milk or meat withdrawal exists. The figure itself depends on formulation and route, so you read it from the entry.

Offline and privacy

Install it once and the whole app — pages, fonts, icons and the data file — is stored on the device. After that it opens and works with the phone in flight mode. There is no sign-in, no analytics, no third-party script and no cookie; the app loads nothing from any host other than its own.

Case sheets you save on the Review page stay in that browser's own storage on that device. They are never uploaded, and clearing the browser's site data deletes them.
